Measured Observation
đ Entry: âOn the Nature of the Shadow Reflectionâ
Location: Shadow Realm â Mirrored Onadbyr
Recorded: During initial survey of the Shadow Plane
The pursuit of truth must begin where certainty has failed.
The Shadow Realm presents itself not as an alien plane, but as a distorted reflection of the Material. Its structures mirror those of Onadbyr with sufficient fidelity to confirm a direct correspondence between the two. However, this correspondence is neither stable nor complete.
Decay appears to precede cause. Buildings intact in the Material exhibit structural compromise here, while those damaged above are rendered as near ruin. This suggests that the Shadow Realm does not merely reflect reality, but anticipates or exaggerates its entropy.
The atmosphere is uniformly oppressive. Illumination is diminished beyond natural expectation, and in certain regions, lightâmundane or magicalâfails to propagate effectively. Even darkvision proves unreliable. The implication is not simple darkness, but active suppression of perception.
Most notable is the persistent auditory phenomenon: a continuous lamentation, perceived externally, but also, within the mind. The composition is celestial in structure, yet its effect is antithetical to any divine harmony. Prolonged exposure results in apathy, lethargy, and diminished will.
This raises a critical question: is the lament an environmental condition, or an intentional instrument?
Evidence suggests the latter.
From multiple vantage points, a column of dark radiance can be observed extending upward from a distant locus, corresponding to a site identified as the Dungeon of Tears. The structure is described as a source of accumulated suffering, from which power is drawn. If this is accurate, then the lament may serve not merely as a byproduct, but as a mechanismâpropagating despair to sustain whatever force maintains the phenomenon above Onadbyr.
If the so-called âShadow Domeâ exists across adjacent planes, as has been suggested, then this plane may serve as its foundation or anchor. The beam observed here may represent either the source of the domeâs energy or a conduit through which it is projected.
This would explain the failure of prior assumptions.
We have relied too heavily on information that was internally consistent, yet externally incomplete. Truth, when bounded by insufficient context, becomes indistinguishable from error.
Accordingly, I will adopt a revised methodology.
All claimsâregardless of sourceâmust be corroborated through direct observation wherever possible. Phenomena must be studied in situ. Conclusions must remain provisional until tested against multiple frames of reference.
The events encountered within a structure identified as the âEyrie of the Fabledâ provided a useful demonstration of this necessity. The location exhibited layered realities: one perceived, one actual, and neither immediately distinguishable without deliberate scrutiny. Engagement with its inhabitants proved⌠distracting, but ultimately reinforced the central thesis.
Perception cannot be trusted without verification.
If this plane is indeed a reflection, it is one that reveals not what is, but what is breaking.
And if the Shadow Dome draws upon that fracture, then understanding this place is not optionalâit is essential.
May clarity walk with me.
